It all started when agricultural vehicles manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini went from the production of slow, heavy-duty tractors to fast, streamlined sports cars. This move was prompted by a remark by Enzo Ferrari: Ferruccio had dared to criticise the Ferrari 250GT and Enzo's scathing report that he was "only capable of driving tractors" annoyed him so much that he determined to produce his own idea of refined, powerful motorcars. In 1966, the mythical Miura Sports Coupé firmly established Lamborghini alongside the other high-power, stylish, Italian sports car manufacturers. Curiously, Ferruccio was not a racing enthusiast and Lamborghini never produced factory-made racing cars, yet it manufactured engines for Formula One and marine racing. The famous Miura actually started life as a racing-car/road-car project, a vehicle equally at home on the road and on the race track.
There is a connection between Lamborghini motorcars of Italy and Miura fighting bulls of Andalucia. In 1962, just prior to inaugurating his motorcar construction activity, Ferruccio Lamborghini visited his friend, Don Eduardo Miura, at his bull-raising hacienda in Sevilla. The magnificent Miura bulls impressed Ferruccio so much that he adopted the Raging Bull as the company's emblem, and named his most important sports car after the Miura family and their majestic fighting bulls. Bullfighting left its mark in other ways: cars such as the Diablo, the Islero, the Murcielago and others, were named after famous bulls.
A New York detective agency is offering $100,000 for information that may help to recover a stolen Lamborghini Aventador. This shows the value, both economical and sentimental, of a Lamborghini, and when Lamborghini aficionados decide to upgrade their car, they need to be reassured that the one they are selling is in good hands.
