Before Jaguar became Jaguar it was Swallow, a company that designed and manufactured side-cars for motorcycles. Founders William Lyons and William Walmsly were motorcycle enthusiasts who started Swallow Side-cars in 1922. Walmsly left the business in 1934 and Lyons expanded to include the production of automobiles. The first car, produced in 1935, was the “SS Jaguar”, the saloon car that started the Jaguar story. The “SS” name was dropped during the war because of similarities with “foreign names or symbols” and the company became Jaguar Cars Limited. Recently, there have been safety issues with the famous mascot, the Leaping Jaguar, and it no longer sits on the bonnet, although nostalgic customers have it added as a customisation.
The 1960s, driving along a sunny road in a comfortable and powerful Jaguar MKII with sea-pines on one side and the sparkling Mediterranean on the other, sensing the purr of the engine, the warm wood of the dashboard, the comfort of the seats: all this happens when you sit in your favourite classic Jaguar. This is the appeal of older cars: they are time capsules. Being a concentrate of engineering and style within an enclosed space, an emeritus automobile retains the spirit of the period when it was built. Somewhat like climbing aboard the Tardis, just settle down inside and you are immediately transported to another time, another place!
Jaguar declares that classic cars should be loved forever! Jaguar actively supports classic car-owners, making heritage spare parts and servicing readily available. There are even racing events for pre-1966 Jaguars: the Jaguar Heritage Challenge. Our company likewise shares sentiments of admiration and appreciation for classic cars: we buy them, we look after them, we see that they end up in good hands. If you are interested in our services, which include taking car of all the paper-work, details and practicalities, spend a moment completing our user-friendly enquiry form to learn more.
'Grace, Space, Pace' was the Jaguar logo used during the 1950s-1960s. It beautifully sums up what Jaguar has to offer, although a bit of a tongue-twister! Nowadays, Jaguar promises performance that will leave us speechless. The Jaguar blend of design and engineering is now presented as pure art in its ‘Art of Performance’ tours.
Jaguar has a long racing history, winning many Le Mans 24 hours races in the 1950s with C-type and D-type Jaguars, and also in 1988-1990 with XJR series sports cars. Jaguar also competed in the European Touring Car Championship, winning in 1984, and winning the World Sports-car Championship in 1991.
The newest Jaguar cars faithfully follow the Jaguar Art of Performance: design plus power. These brand new Jaguars are the all-new XF business saloon, the XE refined sports saloon, the XJ luxury saloon and the F-Pace practical sports car. Last but not least: the “pulse-quickening, pure Jaguar sports car”, the new F-type Jaguar, successor to the famous E-type, which is available as coupé or convertible and fully embodies the “Art of Performance” concept.
